We hear the words, “holistic” and “wellness” often, but it’s not always clear when it comes to knowing the answer to the question, “what is holistic wellness?” In short, it means to live more naturally so that your body can return to its optimal state.


It’s a way of living and thinking that helps us connect our mind, body, and spirit, through the use of natural health solutions that improve our overall wellness.

Benefits of Holistic Wellness

There are so many ways to incorporate holistic wellness into your life, but first let’s gain a better understanding of the benefits it can bring.

It Can Often Resolve Issues That Conventional Medicine Can’t

Conventional medicine certainly has its place. If you need life-saving surgery, for example, holistic wellness solutions are not the way to go. But in many circumstances, it’s the holistic practices that can provide the most benefit.


Why? Conventional medicine doesn’t look at the body holistically. For example, if you have back pain, a doctor might treat it with pharmaceutical drugs, which does nothing to heal the actual issue, and you would likely have to remain on those drugs if you want to keep masking the pain.


As a holistic practitioner, on the other hand, I would run a Bioenergetics scan of your body field to locate the root causes of the issue and then treat them with natural solutions until the issue is resolved.

A Holistic Wellness Lifestyle is Preventative

For instance, all the chemicals, additives, and artificial ingredients that are added to processed foods, medications, and skincare and cleaning products, are some of the biggest culprits of cancer and other conditions. The best part about any type of holistic wellness is that it integrates the mind, body, and spirit. It’s taking your whole being into account, hence the word “holistic.”

What is holistic wellness when it comes to the body? It often starts with what we put on and in our bodies. Look for foods and products that are natural and contain less chemicals and additives.


The body doesn’t know what to do with manmade substances, but it thrives on things like organic produce, free range eggs, and plant-derived lotions and oils. And remember, since it’s all interconnected, the choices you make for your body can also have an impact on your mental and spiritual health as well.

Mind

There are plenty mental health practices you can engage in to help you attain holistic wellness, such as writing in a journal, meditating, or practicing mindfulness. To relax, you can start using essential oils instead of other medications. Or try yoga, which is one of my favorite ways to feel centered and balanced.


When we look at finding answers to the question, “what is wellness?” think about what makes you stressed, anxious, or struggling with your feelings or emotions. This can help you figure out which direction to go.

Spirit

Understanding “what is holistic wellness” through the lens of spirituality leads us to think about all the ways we can connect with our inner spirit, that higher consciousness that resides within each and every one of us.


Meditation, working with crystals, manifesting with the moon, and grounding practices can all help us awaken our soul essence, so that we can feel more whole.

How to Know What Changes to Make

Consider your current lifestyle, and take a few days to journal what you tend to do from morning to evening. Add the foods you tend to eat, the personal products and cleaning products you use, and anything else that has the potential for change.


  • What are your habits?
  • Do the foods you eat contain a lot of artificial ingredients?
  • Do you take a lot of over-the-counter medications?


This is all important information to figure out how to live more holistically by making small changes.

Remember, Small Steps Lead to Big Improvements

To take big leaps in your life, it takes small and simple steps. Don’t attempt to change everything all at once. That is actually a recipe for failure, and it’s not sustainable.


Choose one small thing to change at a time. Then, when you get used to that new way of living, you can move on to change the next thing. Before you know it, you’ll have made huge strives without it feeling like a lot of work.
