Yoga for Busy People: 7 Tips for Fitting It In

Yoga for Busy People: 7 Tips for Fitting It In

INSIDE: Are you craving some yoga in your life, but your life just doesn’t allow for it? With these yoga for busy people tips, you might just find a creative solution!

We know that there are many benefits to having a regular yoga practice, such as stress relief, enhanced flexibility, and a calmer mind. A lot of people have very good intentions for fitting yoga into their day, but sometimes being busy just gets in the way and you struggle to enjoy exercise.

As a busy person, you might be juggling work, children, errands, household responsibilities, friendships, and more. So, as much as you may want to fit yoga in, it can feel impossible at times.

But there are still ways to get your daily practice in, even if you only have five minutes to find the meaning of namaste.

Yoga for Busy People: 7 Tips

Here are some great tips to fit in yoga for busy people…

Practice Deep Breathing

Deep breathing is an important part of yoga, and not only is it extremely beneficial for the mind, body, and spirit, but it’s also a type of meditation that you can do anywhere in any amount of time.

Place your hand on your lower stomach, and connect deeper to your own breath and body. Close your eyes and take some deep breaths through your nose and into your belly. Breathe deeply.

You can take some deep breaths like this while you’re sitting at a traffic light, while you’re waiting in line at the grocery store, and whenever you need a timeout from life.

Do Mini Yoga All Day Long

As a mom of a blended family of 5 boys, I often yearn for the days when I started my day with my favorite yoga DVD. I may not have the time to do a 20-minute yoga workout each morning anymore, but what I can do is take 30 seconds here and there to do a pose.

There’s something about stretching your body that awakens your soul, revives your mind, and irons out the kinks in your body. My little mini yoga sessions keep me feeling rejuvenated all day long.

Make it Part of Your Normal Exercise Routine

If you’re managing to get some exercise in each week, kudos to you mama! That’s one of the best methods of self care that you can engage in.

In that case, all you have to do is incorporate a few poses at the end of your usual workout as part of your routine to cool down, just like you would with stretches. Downward dog or child’s pose are both great options.

Hold each pose for three to five breaths and feel how it centers you, getting you ready to get back into your day.

Start Your Day With a Sun Salutation

One of the most refreshing ways to start your day is to do some sun salutations. But as a busy person, you probably don’t have time for many, so just start with one.

This easy sequence of poses awakens the energy in your body and it’s an ideal way to get out of your head and link your mind, body, and breath.

To ensure you’ll fit it in, get your kids involved. They’ll love it!

Ask for Help

This is a tough one for many people, especially if you're a mom. Most of us just assume there isn’t time for this kind of stuff, but we forget to ask our husbands, moms, or friends for help. You’ll be surprised how much the people who love you want to help if you’ll only ask.

Mention that you want to get back into doing yoga but there’s never any time. Ask if they can manage the kids while you do it. And if that doesn’t work, ask your kids for help! They can have quiet time while you practice yoga or you could all do it together.

Think creatively – there’s always a solution!

Do Yoga at Home

Let’s face it, getting to the yoga studio is resigned mostly for women who haven’t started families yet. Doing yoga at home makes it so much easier to fit it into your schedule.

Online yoga classes have come a long way and have improved a lot over the years. There are hundreds of videos ranging from 15 to 90 minutes, for different times of day, for different needs, and for different levels of expertise.

You can find free videos on YouTube or sign up for courses with your favorite online yoga teachers from all over the world. Just make sure you’re being safe since you won’t have an instructor there in person to correct your poses.

Make It A Priority

As with anything in life, if you really do want to do it, you have to make the time for it, no matter how busy you are. Yoga needs to be a priority if you want it to be part of your life. It really is that simple.

You might find it a challenge to balance your family life, work demands, and your health. However, if you can focus on your health, your other demands will be easier to keep up with.

Final Thoughts About Yoga for Busy People

Remember that yoga doesn’t always have to be about the physical practice in your favorite yoga studio. If you really don’t have time for it, at least practice some mindfulness every day and take time for yourself.

Timing is everything in life, and if you’re not feeling capable of making the changes necessary to do “yoga for busy people” right now, chances are things will line up differently in a couple months, making it easier. So don’t beat yourself up and just do what you can to be holistically healthy in this moment.
